The 2012 racing season was a breakout season of sorts for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. They picked up their second career Sportsman victory, but even more importantly, they improved on their consistency throughout the season and established themselves as a top five team at both Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway where they raced weekly this season.
Power had a very busy schedule this year, racing in 47 events, which was more then any other local Sportsman team. She started the season with a trip to Canandaigua in early April and another road trip to Merrittville Speedway just a couple weeks later before opening the season at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville. The first couple weeks of the season were a little bit of a struggle, but she followed that up with a streak of 10 consecutive to 10 finishes in a month’s span that also included her win at Brockville Speedway on June 16th. Her consistent season at Brockville earned her a third place finish in the overall Sportsman point standings, and also finished fifth overall in points at Mohawk Raceway after posting several top five finishes throughout the season. Overall, she finished the season with 30 top ten finishes, and 13 top five results.
In addition to racing at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway, Power also followed the DIRTcar Sportsman Series. She competed in every event and finished 11th in overall points out of the 115 drivers that attempted at least one of the races in the Series.
“We had a really good season”, says Power. “We were able to get a win, and were very close on a couple other occasions. Our consistency really improved a lot over last year, and we were able to finish in the top five in points at both weekly tracks”.
Other then the win at Brockville, another season highlight was competing at Syracuse for the first time. She started the 30 lap race from the rear of the field on a track that is very tough to pass on, and after taking several laps just trying to get familiar with the place she started to move forward and finished a very respectable 15th place out of nearly 70 cars that ere there attempting to make the event.
“Syracuse was really exciting for all of us, as we were there competing for the first time”, says Power. “We struggled early in the week, just trying to figure the place out, but as the race went on, I got more comfortable and we were actually running pretty good towards the end”.
The 2012 season may be over, but there is still one more event remaining away from the track as Power and the team are going to have their car on display at the Parts Peddler Trade Show on November 16th to 18th. The car will be on display in the Finish Line Web Design booth and Jessica and the team will be there throughout the weekend.
The Power Racing team still has their racing apparel remaining. Be sure to stop by the Parts Peddler show and make your purchase or you can send us an email at power52racing@hotmail.com.
