It was a very busy weekend for Jessica Power and her race team this week, with four consecutive nights of racing planned, beginning with the usual visits to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night and Cornwall Speedway on Sunday, followed by DIRTcar Sportsman series events at Autodrome Drummond on Monday night and Autodrome Granby on Tuesday.
The first of four consecutive nights of racing began on Saturday night at Brockville Speedway. Jessica began the night with a fifth place finish in her qualifier and returned to the pits looking to make the car better before hitting the track for the 25 lap feature. During intermission, Jessica and the other BOS drivers took the time to sign autographs for race fans during an on track autograph session. The Sprint Cars were also on hand, and they laid down a great deal of rubber, making the track much different then most Saturday nights. Passing was at a premium throughout the race, and Jessica finished the night with an eighth place result.
The action moved on to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday night, and after coming out on the wrong end of a photo finish last week, Jessica was hoping to get another opportunity to pick up her first ever Cornwall Speedway win. She started fourth in the eight laps qualifier and advanced to second place. In the 20 lap feature, Jessica started from the ninth position and quickly moved forward. By lap four she was up to fourth place and was up to third when the yellow flag was displayed to the field on lap nine. On the ensuing restart, Jessica made a great move to get the lead just before the next caution came out on lap 10. Jessica held the top spot through the rest of the event, claiming her first ever win.
“I have to thank my family and the crew and sponsors for all their support”, says Power from victory lane. “We were really close last week and though we had it, so it really feels nice to come back here and close the deal this week”.
Autodrome Drummond was up next on Monday night as Jessica made her first ever appearance at the track. She was fourth fastest in her time trial group, and finished her qualifying heat race from the fifth position, locking into the 50 lap main event. She started 17th in the feature and steadily moved forward, and crossed the finish line with a solid fourth place run.
The team packed up at Drummondville and hit the road for Autodrome Granby for the fourth and final race night of the weekend. Jessica was fifth fastest in her time trial session an started and finished her heat race from fifth place, earning the 15th place starting position for the 50 lap race. Like the previous night, Jessica was a quick learner on track she had not raced at before, and climbed to sixth place at the checkered flag for another solid finish. The next race in the Sportsman Super DIRTcar Series comes with a three race swing through Ransomville Speedway, Merrittville Speedway and Humberstone Speedway on September 6th, 7th and 8th.
