Friday night’s racing at Mohawk
Raceway didn’t go the way they had planned.
A spin on lap 3 of her qualifying heat relegated her to the back of the
pack to start the 20 lap main event.
The spin did not cause any damage to the car though, and before they
lined up for the feature they were able to make some adjustments on the car
looking to get a better handle on the car.
Starting from 22nd, Power had a long way to go, but she bided
her time on a track that she is still trying to learn, and by the end of the
race she had moved up to 15th.
“It wasn’t a great run for us,
but it could have been much worse”, says Power. “We don’t have a lot of experience here, and are still learning
as we go, so we will take this, and hopefully next week will be better”.
On Saturday, Power and the team
had their car on display at Wing’s Live Bait and Tackle during the day, before
heading over to Brockville Speedway in the afternoon to get ready for their
opener. Power got off to a much better
start this time, finishing second in her heat race. This put her on the outside of the second row to start the 25 lap
sportsman main event. She rain a strong
race, staying inside the top five through the first 16 laps. Power would finish in seventh.
“It was a pretty good start to
the year. We had a really strong car
early in the feature, but the handling went a way a bit at the end”, says
Power. We are pretty happy with that
finish, and will build on that and hope to be even better next week”.
This coming weekend, Power will
be at Mohawk International Raceway again on Friday night, Brockville Speedway
on Saturday night, and may also be at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday for their
opening night.
