Jessica Power Racing Continues to Gain Momentum After Another Great Weekend at the Track; DIRTcar Sportsman Series to Begin This Weekend

It only takes a quick glance at the point standings to realize that Jessica Power is one of the most improved Sportsman teams in this area.  They have worked hard over the off-season on their program, and did some early season testing under race conditions at tracks that she is unfamiliar with.  The hard work is paying off as she has posted strong finishes throughout the early part of the 2012 season.  Power had a pair of events scheduled this weekend with her usual visits to Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway on Friday and Saturday night, and later added Sunday’s race at Cornwall to their schedule.

At Mohawk on Friday night, Power began the night with a fourth place finish in her qualifying heat.  She had started on the outside of the front row, but struggled early.  The team made several adjustments on the car before hitting the track for the 20 lap feature.  Power ran a great race, advancing to third place early, and holding that spot through halfway.  In the final laps, Power had slipped back to fifth, but still a solid performance.

The next stop on the weekend schedule was Brockville Ontario Speedway.  Power.  She finished her preliminary qualifying event from fifth place, and reported to the pits for adjustment in hopes of getting the car dialed in for the upcoming 25 lap main event.  Power would start from the 11th position, but a flat tire on lap 2 sent her to the pits.  She returned to the track, and was able to get back on the lead lap under the next caution.  From that point forward, Power worked her way through the field with one of her best performances of the season.  She battled her way back to record a fifth place finish.

“It really looked like it was going to be a bad night when we cut down that right front tire with just two laps in”, says Power after the race.  “Fortunately we were able to get back out there, and get our lap back and race our way up to fifth.  It was a real good run for us”.

With the two successful starts already on the weekend, and the DIRTcar Sportsman Series looming next week at Cornwall, Power decided to head back to Cornwall to get more experience at the track.  Once again, Power struggled in the opening heat race, and the team made some adjustments before the feature.  She started from deep in the field in 17th place, but again moved through the field.  At the end of the 20 lap event, she had moved up to 10th.

Jessica Power Ends Busy Weekend of Racing With Top Five Finish at Cornwall Speedway Opener; Solid Finishes at Brockville and Mohawk

It was a busy weekend of racing for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team, with three events on tap, beginning with Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, then on to Brockville Speedway on Saturday and ending with the season opening events at Cornwall Motor Speedway.

It was a struggle early at Mohawk Raceway on Friday night.  A fifth place finish in the preliminary heats put her back in 21st to start the 20 lap Sportsman main event.  The first half of the race continued to be frustrating for Power, unable to gain much ground.  As the race approached halfway, Power was a long way back in 19th place.  The second half of the race was a different story, as the car roared to life.  With five laps remaining, she was in the top 15, and continued to pass a car a lap until the finish, getting up to 10th.

“We really struggled early in the race, but I changed my line after halfway and really found something”, says Power.  “It is too bad the race wasn’t a few laps longer, and I think we would have moved up even more”.

At Brockville on Saturday, Power had a strong second place finish in her qualifying heat race.  In the 25 lap main event, she would start from outside of the fourth row in eighth place, and battled an ill-handling car for much of the race, she would finish the event in 11th, but later determined the cause of the handling issues.

“The car didn’t want to work well at all, and once we got back to the pits after the race we discovered that we had a bent shock and the torsion bars had went away on us”, says Power.  “We still managed to salvage an ok finish, and we will be back next week looking for better results”.

The final stop of the weekend was Cornwall Speedway, and Power struggled early in practice.  After making some changes to the car, she had improved some, taking home a sixth place finish in her heat race.  In the 20 lap main event, she would start from the 15th position but this time the car was working well.  In just five laps she was into the top ten, and into the top five as the race approached lap 13.  Power would go on to finish fourth, posting her best run of the 2012 season to date.

Jessica Power and the Power Motorsports team would like to thank Speedy Auto Service, Gananoque Chev-Olds, Fastenal, Jackson’s Landscaping and Property Maintenance, Wing’s Live Bait & Tackle, John’s Your Local Grocer, Stover Bus Lines, Axcel Sports, Great Chow Express, Star Diner, Len Corcoran Excavating, Glen Gould Estate Construction, Bicknell Racing Products, Atomic Sign Works, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, South Eastern Mechanical Inc., and Finish Line Web Design for their support during the 2012 racing season.

Jessica Power Has Disappointing Night at Mohawk Raceway Opener; Starts 2012 Season at Brockville With Solid Top Ten Finish

The start of a busy racing season is underway for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team.  First is was the opening night at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York, followed by the 2012 opener at Brockville Speedway the following night.

Friday night’s racing at Mohawk Raceway didn’t go the way they had planned.  A spin on lap 3 of her qualifying heat relegated her to the back of the pack to start the 20 lap main event.  The spin did not cause any damage to the car though, and before they lined up for the feature they were able to make some adjustments on the car looking to get a better handle on the car.  Starting from 22nd, Power had a long way to go, but she bided her time on a track that she is still trying to learn, and by the end of the race she had moved up to 15th.

“It wasn’t a great run for us, but it could have been much worse”, says Power.  “We don’t have a lot of experience here, and are still learning as we go, so we will take this, and hopefully next week will be better”.

On Saturday, Power and the team had their car on display at Wing’s Live Bait and Tackle during the day, before heading over to Brockville Speedway in the afternoon to get ready for their opener.  Power got off to a much better start this time, finishing second in her heat race.  This put her on the outside of the second row to start the 25 lap sportsman main event.  She rain a strong race, staying inside the top five through the first 16 laps.  Power would finish in seventh.

“It was a pretty good start to the year.  We had a really strong car early in the feature, but the handling went a way a bit at the end”, says Power.  We are pretty happy with that finish, and will build on that and hope to be even better next week”.

This coming weekend, Power will be at Mohawk International Raceway again on Friday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and may also be at Cornwall Speedway on Sunday for their opening night.

Jessica Power and the Power Motorsports team would like to thank Speedy Auto Service, Gananoque Chev-Olds, Fastenal, Jackson’s Landscaping and Property Maintenance, Wing’s Live Bait & Tackle, John’s Your Local Grocer, Stover Bus Lines, Axcel Sports, Great Chow Express, Star Diner, Len Corcoran Excavating, Glen Gould Estate Construction, Bicknell Racing Products, Atomic Sign Works, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, South Eastern Mechanical Inc., and Finish Line Web Design for their support during the 2012 racing season.

Jessica Power Gets Top Ten Finish at Can Am Motorsports Park; Home Track Season Openers on Tap for This Weekend

It was a busy week for Jessica Power and the Power Motorsports team.  On Wednesday, Jessica had her car on display at McDonalds in Gananoque, Ontario as part of their McHappy Day, helping to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House charity.  Power also raced at Can Am on Saturday night, scoring her first top ten finish of the season.

The charity event at McDonalds on Wednesday was a great success, as Power met with many McDonalds customers during the McHappy Day fundraiser, and discussed racing with many who have never seen a race, as well as many local race fans that stopped to visit.

“We always enjoy putting the car on display, and talking about what we do with everyone that comes by”, says Power.  “This was a really neat experience, and it was for a great cause, and I look forward to doing this again in the future”.

The Power Racing team hit the track at Can Am on Saturday night for the first time in 2012.  Not only did the end the night with a ninth place finish, they also won the $100 random position bonus that is given out each week from North Country Custom.

“We really want to thank Bob Thurston and North Country Custom for sponsoring the Sportsman division at Can Am with their random position bonus.  We were lucky enough to win it this week”, says Power after the race.

This coming weekend, the Power Racing team will start their regular summer schedule, with events at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday nights, and Brockville Speedway on Saturday.  The weekend will be especially busy, as they will have their car on display in Lyndhurst, Ontario at Wing’s Live Bait and Tackle as part of the opening of Pickerel fishing season in the area on Saturday before heading to Brockville on Saturday night.
