After a tough battle the previous week at Mohawk International Raceway, Jessica Power and the Power Racing team were looking forward to getting back on the track this past weekend for the next round of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series. The destination this week was at Brighton Speedway, where Power first began her racing career in the 4 cylinder class back in 2004.
The night began with the typical time trial format for most DIRTcar Sportsman Series events. Jessica posted the second fastest speed in her group, earning a front row starting spot for the eight lap qualifying heat race. She led the race early, and just when it looked like she was going to grab the heat race win, she dropped to second after a photo finish at the checkered flag. Power still finished in a position to make the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the 35 lap main event, and by luck of the draw she selected position number three, and lined up on the inside of the second row. Jessica moved to second early, and settled into third for the first part of the race. After a great battle for the third position in the closing laps, Jessica crossed the line with a solid third place finish.
“It was a good run for us tonight”, says Power. “We qualified well, and raced in the top five all night long. It was a really good points race too, gaining ground on the series point leader. We are happy with that, and we will now pack up and move on to the next race, and hope to keep it up”.
That next race was supposed to be Saturday night at Le RPM Speedway in St. Marcel, Quebec. An all day rain, and a forecast of more rain throughout the evening forced track and series officials to cancel the program.
Power will now have a couple weeks off to prepare for Super DIRT Week in Syracuse, New York. The DIRTcar Sportsman Series continues on Wednesday, October 9th at Weedsport Speedway, followed by practice and time trials at the New York State Fairgrounds on Thursday, October 10th, more practice and heat races on October 11th and the 30 lap DIRTcar Sportsman main event at the Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 12th. The season will conclude on Friday, October 18th at Brockville Speedway for the DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.
Jessica Power and the Power Racing team would like to thank all of our 2013 sponsors which include Speedy Auto Service, Gananoque Chev-Olds, Fastenal, Wing’s Live Bait & Tackle, John’s Your Local Grocer, Stover Bus Lines, Axcel Sports, Dash Lawncare, Great Chow Express, Star Diner, Len Corcoran Excavating, Glen Gould Estate Construction, Bicknell Racing Products, Bert Transmission, Atomic Sign Works, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, South Eastern Mechanical Inc., Camara Slate, NAPA Auto Parts, Lakins Tile and Finish Line Web Design for their support and we look forward to a very exciting 2013 campaign.

Jessica Power Looking to Rebound From 13th Place Finish at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday Night; Busy Weekend Coming Up
With Mohawk International Raceway the next stop on the DIRTcar Sportsman Series schedule, Jessica Power and the Power Racing team were hoping they would have an advantage, with a full season of notes from last season in their arsenal after competing there weekly in 2012.
Saturday night started off well for Power, posting the third fastest time in her time trial group, earning the third starting spot in her qualifying heat race. She maintained that spot, and would make the redraw for a top 12 starting spot in the 50 lap main event. The draw did not go as hoped for Power, selecting the 12th position out of the 12 numbers available. She started the main event from the outside of row six. It was a struggle for much of the race for Power, and the end result was a disappointing 13th place result.
“We would have liked to have had a top 10 finish, but it just wasn’t meant to be tonight”, says Power after the race. “The car is still one piece for next weekend, and we will go back to the shop and get ready for another busy weekend”.
This coming weekend, Jessica Power will continue the DIRTcar Sportsman Series schedule with a trip to Brighton Speedway on Friday night before packing up and heading to Le RPM Speedway in St. Marcel, Quebec on Saturday. After that, the team will get ready for Super DIRT Week, followed by the season ending 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals at Brockville on October 18th..

Jessica Power Has Strong Weekend With a Pair of Top 10 Finishes in DIRTcar Sportsman Events at Ransomville and Humberstone Speedway
At this point last season, Jessica Power was in the midst of the first season following the DIRTcar Sportsman Series. She had been running well, but the three race western swing at Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone was tough, and it broke any momentum that the team had. With these three events on the schedule this weekend, Power was looking for some strong finishes, to move up in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series point standings.
Ransomville Speedway was the first stop on the weekend schedule on Friday night, and Power started strong posting a third place finish in her qualifying heat race and earning a spot in the redraw for a top 12 starting position. In the redraw, Power randomly picked position number two, and fired from the outside of the front row for the 50 lap main event. The yellow flag was displayed twice in the opening 10 laps, and Power remained inside the top five. As the race progressed, Jessica had lost some ground, but crossed the finish line in 10th place. She later advanced to ninth after another competitor did not pass the standard post race tech inspection.
The action moved to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday night, but a lingering rain forced track officials to cancel the program, giving the team some extra time to prepare for Sunday’s event at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colbourne, Ontario. Jessica started from the 18th position at Humberstone in their 50 lap main event, and worked her through the field to finish solidly inside the top 10 in eighth place.
This coming weekend, Jessica Power will continue the DIRTcar Sportsman Series schedule with a stop at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Saturday night. Power was a regular at this track in 2012, and hopes to have an advantage over some of the other competitors in the series. After seven events in the series so far, Jessica is currently in the top five in the overall DIRTcar Series point standings.

Jessica Power Scores Top Ten Finishes at Brockville and Cornwall to End 2013 Regular Season; Raises over $400 for “Cuts for Cancer”
This past weekend was the final weekend on the “regular season” schedule for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. Brockville Speedway hosted a 40 lap Ogilvie’s Triple Crown Series finale and Cornwall Speedway also hosted a 40 lap event of their own with the final round of the Seaway Sportsman Series.
The starting lineup for the qualifying heat races on Saturday night at Brockville were determined by a timed hot lap session. Jessica struggled early, posting the sixth fastest speed in her group, earning the sixth place starting spot in the heat race. She was able to advance to fifth place after the eight lap event which resulted in 14th place starting position for the 40 lap main event. The team made some adjustments to the car before the feature, and those changes worked as Power moved into the top ten before they had completed lap 10. At the halfway point of the race, Jessica was running in the eighth position, and continued to move forward. On the final corner, Power advanced to sixth place, finishing the 2013 season in sixth place in the overall point standings.
“We have had a good second half of the season”, says Power. “We are looking forward to the remaining events of the year with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series, and hopefully we can keep the momentum going”.
Cornwall Speedway was the next stop on the schedule on Sunday night. Jessica posted the fourth fastest speed in her time trial group, and finished fifth in the eight lap qualifying heat race, resulting in an 18th place starting position in the 40 lap main event. At the drop of the green flag, Jessica moved forward and the end result was a solid seventh place result.
This coming weekend will be a busy one for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. They will travel west for a three race swing in the DIRTcar Sportsman Series with events at Ransomville Speedway on Friday night, Merrittville Speedway on Saturday night and Humberstone Speedway on Sunday night. This three-race swing will play a pivotal role in DIRTcar Sportsman Series which will continue with events at Mohawk Raceway, Brighton Speedway and RPM Speedway to end the month of September.
