For the first time in her young racing career, Jessica Power and her DIRTcar Sportsman team are making their final preparations for Super DIRT Week. The busy week will begin on Wednesday night for a Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series race at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, and will continue the rest of the week at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse.
Once the Power Racing team rolls into the New York State Fairgrounds on Thursday, they will have practice and time trials for the Sportsman Futures Race, then Friday will be more practice and qualifying for Saturday’s Sportsman Championship race as well as the Futures race event. Saturday will be the 30 lap Sportsman Series race. The Futures race is geared for teams that have not raced at Syracuse before in their respective divisions, and gives them a little more track time to adjust to the fast speeds that are seen at the Fairground’s mile long track.
“We are pretty excited about racing at Syracuse this year”, says Power. “We have had a pretty good season, and have had a lot of support from our sponsors and fans, and I can’t wait to get out there and see what we can do”.
Right now, the team is putting some finishing touches on the car, including putting a brand new body on the car, and going over every last detail making sure they are ready for the biggest Sportsman Series race of the season. Super DIRT Week is often described as the “Daytona 500” of DIRTcar racing, and the team is anxious to get started.
Once Syracuse is complete, Power will have one final event remaining on her 2012 schedule. She will return to Brockville Speedway for the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals as they host the DIRTcar Sportsman Series finale on Sunday, October 14th.
The Power Racing team still has their racing apparel for sale at the track each week. The profits from the sales of the team shirts will be used to fund their efforts for Super DIRT Week. To purchase your shirt, visit us at the track on raceday, or email power52racing@hotmail.com.

Jessica Power Gets 13th Place Finish in DIRTcar Sportsman Series Race at Mohawk International Raceway; Welcomes Camara Slate as New Sponsor
It was a long night at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday night, as they ended their 2012 season with a DIRTcar Sportsman Series race that ended just after 2am on Sunday morning after a full day of racing at the track, cramming a scheduled two-day racing weekend into one after battling Mother Nature.
Power and the rest of the DIRTcar Sportsman were part of Saturday night’s show, so after watching a full day of racing already that started in the afternoon, they were ready to hit the track for Saturday night’s events. Jessica timed fifth fastest in her qualifying group, earning the fifth position to start her heat race. She finished in fourth, earning the 13th starting spot for the 50 lap main event. It was a tough race, as the track had been well used by the time the Sportsman cars hit the track for the final feature of the weekend. Passing was at a premium on the one lane surface and she finished just one spot higher then she started in 12th place.
“We were looking for much better results tonight”, but there was nothing we could do the way the track was at the end of the night”, says Power after the race. “We hoped that after running here all season we would have an advantage over some of the other cars running the series, but it just didn’t work out”.
Power is now 11th in DIRTcar Series points for the Sportsman, which means she has earned guaranteed starter status in case she needs it during the upcoming race at Brighton Speedway this weekend. Power will be looking for a good run at Brighton during the Applefest Weekend as she tries to move into the top 10.
Following Brighton Speedway this weekend, Power will be getting the car prepared for their first ever trip to the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse for Super DIRT Week. She will run the Sportsman Futures race on Thursday, October 4th and the Syracuse Sportsman Championship race on October 6th. She will close out the 2012 season at Brockville Speedway on October 14th as part of the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals.
It was just recently announced that Camara Slate has signed on as an associate sponsor for Super DIRT Week. It has now been confirmed that Camara Slate will also be a sponsor for the entire 2013 season.
“We are very excited to have Camara Slate on board with us for DIRT Week and the 2013 season”, says Power. “This will be our first year at Syracuse and we are thrilled to have such great support from all of our sponsors”.

Jessica Power Returns From DIRTcar Sportsman Weekend Tour With Disappointing Results; MIR is Next as DIRTcar Series Continues
With the 2012 regular season over, Jessica Power was ready to hit the road and due some traveling with the DIRTcar Sportsman Series. She ran the three race Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone Speedway section of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series last season, and with some notes to fall back on, the team was hoping to come out of the weekend with some strong finishes and solidify a spot in the top 10 in the series as it returns to more familiar territory this coming weekend.
Ransomville Speedway was the first stop on the tour, located near Niagara Falls, on the American side of the border. Power started the night off well, finishing third in her qualifying heat race, and locking in a spot in the night’s 50 lap main event. Qualifying in itself was a tough task with 45 cars attempting to get in the show and only 30 starting spots available. The race was filled with carnage, lots of wrecked race cars by the time the 50 lap feature was over. Power had started 14th and had moved towards the top ten before getting caught up in wreck just a few laps into the race. She went to the pits to have the crew check the car over, and returned to the track for the restart. At the checkered flag, Power would cross the line with a 21st place finish.
The team made the short drive over to Merrittville Speedway for Saturday night’s events and a steady morning rain left the team in doubt as to whether or not there would be any racing. Just after noon, the skies began to clear, and racing was on as scheduled. Power struggled throughout the night, and had to start the race using a provisional that comes with being in the top 12 in points. The team made some changes before the feature, but it continued to be a long night and ended up with a 22nd place finish.
The final stop on the weekend schedule was Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario. Once again, the end result was not what the team had hoped, and she ended the night credited with a 26th place finish after being involved in a wreck.
“It was a tough weekend to say the least”, says Power after the final race. “We didn’t have the results that we had hoped for, but we learned a lot in the process and we were able to bring the car home in one piece. I really want to thank everyone that helped us this weekend, and a special thanks to Bicknell Racing Products for their continued support”.
This coming weekend, Power will return to some more familiar ground as the DIRTcar Sportsman tour resumes at Mohawk International Raceway on Saturday night. Power had a great season at MIR finishing in the top five in track points and would love nothing more then to finish out the season with a DIRTcar Sportsman victory.

Jessica Power Finishes the Regular Season in the Top Five at Both Weekly Tracks; Big Weekend Coming up With DIRTcar Sportsman Series
At the beginning of the season, Jessica Power had set her goals to win races, finish consistently inside the top ten each week, and finish in the top five in points at both weekly tracks, Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway. Power won earlier this season at Brockville, scored 30 top ten finishes to date, and went into this past weekend’s final point races amongst the top five in overall track points.
This past week, Mohawk Raceway changed up from their normal Friday night date with a rare Thursday show to start the Labor Day Weekend. It was a 35 lap Frenchie’s “Drive One” Sportsman series and also the final points night at the track for the 2012 season. Jessica started fifth in her qualifying heat race, and moved up through the field to finish with a strong second place result. In the main event, she started fourth, but struggled throughout the race, finishing with a disappointing ninth place run. She finished the season fifth in track points, and possibly fourth as the position from another competitor earlier in the season is under review. Jessica also finished in the top five in the Frenchie’s Sportsman series and was honored as the top finishing female driver after the race was over.
At Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, Power was looking to move up one more spot in the point standings to third, but would need to have a good run, or some bad luck from her nearest competitor. She started fourth in her heat, but struggled early, and finished sixth. After reporting back to the pit area, they made some adjustments to the car, hoping for a much better run in the 25 lap main event. She lined up in the staging area from the 18th position, and rolled onto the track looking to climb through the field in a hurry. The struggles continued though, and Power would end the night in 12th place, but the finish was high enough to move her up to third in track points.
“It certainly wasn’t the way we wanted to get third. We really wanted to race for it, but he had a problem early, and even though we struggled, we were able to get enough points to get by him”, says Power. “We have had a good season, and we are pretty excited about the next few weeks and some of the bigger races on our schedule”.
Cornwall Motor Speedway concluded their 2012 season on Sunday night with a 40 lap St. Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Series event. Jessica won her qualifying heat race, and started the main event from the front row. After two lengthy red flags from multi car incidents, Jessica battled amongst the top five for most of the event. At the checkered flag, she was credited with a sixth place result. She finished the 2012 St. Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Series in fourth place.
This coming weekend, Power will be on the road following the DIRTcar Sportsman series with events at Ransomville Speedway in the Niagara Falls, New York area on Friday night before crossing back into Canada with events at Merrittville Speedway and Humberstone Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.
