Jessica Power Continues Top Ten Streak at Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway; Struggles in DIRTcar Series Race at Cornwall
It was a busy weekend for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team as they traveled to Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway for their regular weekly shows, as well as the first race of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Going into Friday night’s events at Mohawk Raceway, Jessica was fourth place in points, within striking distance of second place with a solid finish. The night didn’t start well though, as Power was scheduled to compete in the second qualifying heat, but unable to get the car fired, as carburetor problems from the previous week continued. The team resolved the issue in time for the 20 lap main event. She would have to start the race from the rear of the field, and it was a struggle moving up through the pack. At the finish, Power would climb to 10th place, extending her top ten streak to three races at MIR, and seven out of the last eight events.
Brockville Speedway was the next stop on their schedule on Saturday night, and after a fifth place finish in her qualifying heat race, the team went to work, trying to find some more speed before the 25 lap feature race. She rolled off the starting grid from 13th place, and was hoping for another top ten finish. The first half of the race was a bit of a struggle, but Power persevered, and ended the night with a ninth place finish.
“We said at the start of the year we would be happy with top ten finishes”, but we have been running much better then that lately, and now fighting for tenth is getting a little frustrating, but that is a testament to this team giving me a great set up all the time, and we are expecting higher finishes”, says Power.
After getting rained out at Cornwall Speedway back on June 3rd for the first round of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series, the race was postponed until this past Sunday night. Jessica times fourth fastest in her time trial group, placing her fourth to start her qualifying heat race. Jessica struggled, and would have to attempt to qualify through the B-main last chance race. By finishing in the top 12 in DIRTcar Series points last year, Jessica was a guaranteed starter for the event, and she would have to fall back on that and start the 50 lap main event from 30th position. The car wasn’t perfect, but Jessica was able to move forward, and she finished the race with a 17th place finish.
“This is not how we wanted to get the series started, but we will move on, and hopefully when the series continues we will be a lot better”, says Power.
Jessica will be back in action at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night for a 40 lap St. Lawrence Seaway Series event, and then on to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night. The DIRTcar Sportsman series is off now until September 7th, 8th and 9th when they travel to Ransomville, Merrittville and Humberstone Speedway for a three race swing in the Niagara Region.

The 2012 racing season has been a year of consistency for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. The goal going into the year was to record as many top ten finishes as possible, and with 15 top tens through the last 17 races, Power accomplished that goal. She also picked up her first win of the season a few weeks ago, and has run in the top five on many occasions. Power has earned the respect of her fellow competitors, and has rapidly become a fan favorite at here weekly tracks, and has grabbed the attention of other competitors from various tracks that she will be racing against on the DIRTcar tour.
This past weekend, Power was back at Mohawk International Raceway for the second round of the Frenchie’s “Drive One” Sportsman Series. After struggling in her qualifying heat race, Jessica would have to roll off the starting grid from 19th place for the 35 lap series race. Power drove a great race, working her way up to fifth at one point, and crossed the finish line with a solid seventh place fun.
“The car pretty good tonight in the feature. We made a lot of changes after struggling so much in the heat race”, says Power. “We almost got to the top five, but the handling started to go away near the end of the race. Overall it was a good night”.
On Saturday night at Brockville, Power finished fifth in her qualifier with the car not running as well it should have. The team made some changes, and after a quick practice session, they were ready for the 25 lap feature event. Once again, Jessica would have to come from the rear of the field. The first 19 laps of the race went caution free, and Power was able to move up through the field. Over the final six laps she moved up to finish with a solid eighth place result.
This coming week will be a busy one for the Power racing team. First up is Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, then Brockville Speedway on Saturday followed by a return trip to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night for the opening round of the DIRTcar Sportsman Series.

Jessica Power Continues to Impress With Top Ten Finishes at Mohawk Raceway and Cornwall Speedway
Going into the 2012 season, top ten finishes were the goal for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. With success throughout the first half of 2012, the goals remain the same, but the personal expectations have become higher, especially after picking up a feature win at Brockville back in June. Power was hoping to continue that success during weekly events at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, and Brockville Speedway on Saturday.
At Mohawk Raceway, Jessica started her qualifying heat race from ninth place, and quickly advanced through the field to finish in fifth. In the 20 lap main event, she started from the inside of the seventh row in 13th place. She steadily progressed through the field, and crossed the finish line with a strong fifth place run.
The following day, Power and the team arrived at Brockville Speedway. Jessica started at the back of the field and roared to the front, taking the heat race win. In the 25 lap feature, Jessica started from tenth, and struggled to gain ground on the leaders. She ended the night with an eighth place finish.
“Our goal is top ten every night, and we accomplished that tonight, but we really wanted more then that”, says Power. “The car was really good in the qualifying heat race, and it is a little disappointing that we didn’t move up more in the feature, but we will go back to the shop and figure out what we can do better, and come back strong next week”.
This coming week, Power will be back at Mohawk International Raceway for round two of the Frenchie’s “Drive One” Sportsman Series. On Saturday night, Jessica will return to the BOS for a regular night of racing, plus driver autograph night. Come on out to Brockville Speedway and meet Jessica and the other drivers and get an autograph.

Jessica Power Gets Another Top Ten Finish at Brockville Speedway on Saturday Night; Ends Canada Day Weekend With Mixed Results
Going into the Canada Day long weekend, Jessica Power had a full weekend lines up. The usual Friday night events at Mohawk Raceway and Saturday night races at Brockville plus a return visit to Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night. Entering the weekend, Power was inside the top five in points at both weekly tracks, and she was hoping to continue to move up the leaderboard.
At Mohawk Raceway on Friday night, Power suffered some damage to the car in her qualifying heat race, and thanks to some a local racer with a shop close by, Power was able to get the car fixed and return for the 20 lap feature. Starting at the tail of the field, Power cautiously worked her way forward, and finished in 11th place.
“The night could have been a whole lot worse after that heat race. We broke the shock tower, and needed to get it welded back in place before we could do anything else”, says Power. “Thanks to Pro Stock racer Jody Swamp we were able to get the car up to his shop just up the road from the track, and get it fixed”.
Brockville Speedway was up next, and Power began the night with a fifth place finish in her qualifying heat. Next up was the Sportsman Dash for Cash, and with the help of everyone’s votes last week, Power started on the outside of the front row, and took the lead early. The last half of the 10 lap dash was side by side for the lead, and with the checkered flag out, she finished the race in second place. The 20 lap Sportsman feature was up next, and Power started from 12th place. Although the car didn’t handle the way the team had hoped, Jessica was still able to advance through the field, avoiding wrecks that occurred in front of her, and crossed the line with a fifth place finish.
“We were a little of on our setup, but all in all it was a good run for us. Thankfully we were able to avoid a couple wrecks that happened right around us, and we came out unscathed”, says Power after the race. “As for the dash for cash, I really want to thank all of our family, friends, fans and sponsors that voted for us. We had a good run, and came within a lap of winning it”.
Taking advantage of the long weekend, the Power racing team traveled to Cornwall Speedway on Sunday. The added seat time at the track was important as the DIRTcar Sportsman Series comes to Cornwall in just a couple of weeks. Power started seventh in her qualifying heat and advanced to third. In the 20 lap main event, Jessica started from 12th but a bold that somehow sheared off the alternator caused some mechanical issues under the hood, and Power was unable to continue.
