Jessica Power Gets Valuable Experience at Merrittville Speedway on Saturday Night; Will Race at Can Am this coming Saturday Night
With her two home tracks still idle for the next couple weeks, Jessica Power and the Power Racing team traveled to Merrittville Speedway on Saturday night in hopes of gaining some valuable experience at the track for when she returns in September with the DIRTcar Sportsman series.
“We were here a couple of years ago for the Bicknell racing school, and we came back last year for the DIRTcar Sportsman series race, and really didn’t do very well”, says Power. “We wanted to come back early this year and get a better handle on the race track before we come back here in September for the series race this year”.
In her qualifying heat race, Power started sixth, and maintained that position throughout the 8 lap event. After returning to the pit area, the team made several adjustments to the car looking to find some more grip, and get the car turning better through the corners. With a 24th starting position in the 40 lap main event, Power knew that it was going to be tough going, but the main goal was to finish the race with no damage, and gain some experience. Power accomplished that, finishing in 23rd.
“A lot of people will look at that 23rd place finish and question why we came here to begin with”, says Power. “We were fully aware going in that we weren’t going to set the world on fire, but we needed to get some more laps here so I am more comfortable when we come back here for the series race later in the year”.
This coming weekend, Power will stay a little closer to home as she travels across the border to Can Am Motorsports Park on Saturday night. Her weekly tracks of Mohawk Raceway and Brockville Speedway don’t open until the following weekend.
“I have always enjoyed racing at Can Am, and I am looking forward to racing there on Saturday night”, explains Power. “I am also excited about getting our weekly tracks going the following week”.

Jessica Power Had a Busy Saturday With Brockville Speedway Fan Fair and Practice Session at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park
By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design - Saturday was a busy day for Jessica Power and the Power Racing team. First up was a trip to Brockville for the 1st annual Brockville Ontario Speedway Fan Fair held at Home Hardware. After a couple hours, the team then packed up and headed for Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park for a practice session in preparation for the season opener this coming weekend.
The BOS Fan Fair turned out to be a great success for everyone, as many local race fans came out to get a glimpse of the new cars for the upcoming season. Drivers were on hand to sign autographs and talk with local race fans that came out. The event was also a fundraiser for the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters clubs.
The second stop of the day was at Can Am, as they hosted a practice session leading up to their season opener this coming weekend. Power ran several laps and experimented with different shocks and set-ups on the car.
“We really learned a lot here today”, says Power. “We have been working hard on our shock program for this year, and we tried some new shocks and really liked what we found. I am anxious to get back on the track here Saturday night and see where we are at against the rest of the division”.
Power will race at Can Am this Saturday night, and will hit the road to Merrittville Speedway on April 28th for their season opener. The Power Racing team will race at Mohawk International Raceway and Brockville Speedway weekly in 2012, as well as the full Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Series. Mohawk and Brockville open on May 11th and 12th respectively.
There is no debate that Jessica has improved as a driver over the last couple years. Her accomplishments in 2011 did not go unnoticed, as she recently won the Dirt Track Digest Most Improved Driver Award for 2011. The award was voted on by an online vote at Dirt Track Digest, and was also voted on by a panel of 11 respected motorsports personalities in this area. She received top votes from both.

Jessica Power Makes 2012 Season Debut in First Ever Appearance at Canandaigua Motorsports Park; Can Am Practice Set For This Weekend
By Craig Revelle - Finish Line Web Design
Jessica Power and the Power Motorsports team had the itch to go racing, and with the local tracks not opening for another week, the team made the trip to Canandaigua Motorsports Park, located near Rochester, New York for their 2012 season opener. With 41 Sportsman cars on hand, and racing at a track that she had never raced on before, it was going to be tough, but the team was hopeful that they would get the season started off on a high note, and be even more prepared when the 2012 season begins at her weekly tracks.
By luck of the draw, Power started on the pole in her qualifying heat race. With no experience at the track, and just a brief hot lap session to get the car dialed in, Power needed more adjustments on the car, but still managed to finish in third place, locking herself into the Sportsman 20 lap main event. She started from the 12th position, and crossed the finish line in 17th after fighting an ill-handling car.
“We just missed the set up a little bit”, says Power after the race. “It was a good learning experience for our team, and I know what changes we need to make when we come back here in the future. It was a real good test for our team, and we cant wait to get the season started at our home tracks”.
This coming weekend, Power will be at Chapman’s Can Am Motorsports Park in Lafargeville, New York for a practice session. The following Saturday, April 21st will be the opening night at Can Am. Power Motorsports will race at Can Am through the end of the month, before racing weekly at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday Nights and Brockville Speedway on Saturday nights.
“We really enjoy traveling to new tracks, and tracks that we may only get to once a year. The DIRTcar Sportsman tour really doesn’t get going to after our season is over at home”, adds Power. “We will now concentrate on our weekly program, and look forward to running the tour later in the year”.
Jessica Power and the Power Motorsports team would like to thank Speedy Auto Service, Gananoque Chev-Olds, Fastenal, Jackson’s Landscaping and Property Maintenance, Wing’s Live Bait & Tackle, John’s Your Local Grocer, Stover Bus Lines, Great Chow Express, Star Diner, Len Corcoran Excavating, Glen Gould Estate Construction, Bicknell Racing Products, Atomic Sign Works, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, South Eastern Mechanical Inc., and Finish Line Web Design for their support during the 2012 racing season.
